By every second, I can feel that the development of Seoul is moving forward, but I still can't remove the idea that Seoul doesn't have a real landmark..especially artwise. Dongdaemun Design Plaza & Park (DDPP) might make a difference but the complex will be mainly used for exhibition purposes. Then, have a look at the Nodul Island Opera House. The architect of the National Museum of Korea and the Songdo Art Center, Seung Hong Park has visualized the waves of the Han river. The gigantic stainless steel roof has an image of the Korean traditional dance and the exterior elevations go with the flow of the river. Plus, tens of thousands of LED lights will make it look different by every second, every minute, and every time you look at the building. Its location is quite unique so wherever you are in this complex, you can enjoy the sunrise and sunset of the city. On the east side, it will be occupied with an opera theater (1,751 seats), a symphony hall (2,100 seats), and a multipurpose theater (400 seats). On the west side, more static facilities as an observation cafe, museum will be constructed. The main opera theater will have two basement levels and eight ground levels. So, you can take a bus to the island and escape from the crowded city and have a pleasant, relaxing time. If you can't wait for it, why don't you have a look at the video and some photos?

We know that Yongsan U.S. military base will move to another place, then what will fill the hugh space? Here's the idea from the city. Six parks will be made to become a green network connecting Namsan and the Han River and on the UNC site, 50-story commercial buildings will be constructed. The park district will be 2,420,000 square meters. Each park will have a theme and they are named as 'U-Eco Park', 'International Culture Park' and so on (I think it is kinda stupid though). The complex district will occupy 2% of the total space and will be about 180,000 square meters. Commercial buildings will be developed along Hannam New Town. The Shin Bundang Line will be connected to the Yongsan Park, so its accessibility will be improved. These are still simple sketches and I will keep updating you guys when I hear something.
Kumho has never disappointed me with its building designs. Here is Kumho's latest project - Bucheon Joongdong Richensia. At the moment, framings of level 66 has just been finished and soon the construction of heliport will start. Its height is 238m, and each front door and wallpaper will be designed by a famous calligraphy designer, Lie Sang Bong. Unlike many other residential towers in Korea, lower levels have floating terrace gardens and they give a vibrant feel to the whole complex. In the twin towers there will be special facilities like spa, suites, sky lounge, etc.

Lotte is making its move to Dongdaemun market. One of the many affiliates of Lotte, Lotte Asset Development will rent 9 floors of the biggest shopping mall in this area, GoodMorning City. Lotte AD will use from the basement level 2 to level 7. Unlike the other shopping centers in Dongdaemun (or DDM), Lotte will operate the department store system here, and as this area is crowded with young people, the concept will be a young city center fashion mall. So, you can meet some young casual brands and fast fashion brands which can be found in many department stores. Zara seems to be using the most of the first floor. GoodMorning City is the biggest shopping center in DDM and it has 17 levels. On level 9, you can find Megabox DDM and it has 8 movie theaters. GoodMorning City & Lotte's aggressive marketing strategy may threaten the existing malls like Doota, Migliore. But in the long term, this will help the whole DDM market come out of a long-term depression and will change the operation system of other malls in the area. Maybe they might also find some specialty retailers like Shinsegae. You never know. Busan city promotes the marina industry. The first step is redeveloping the existing Suyoung Bay Yachting Center by 2015 and constructing marina harbors at Baekunpo, Namcheon, Sammi, and Daebyeon. The second step will be new marina harbors in the North Port, Cheonsung, Hakri, and Chilam.
These concept pictures are for the KTX Suseo station. Suseo station will be the terminal station of the 'Suseo - Bundang (Pangyo) - Pyeongtaek - Gwangju/Busan' route. No more details announced yet. Future updates expected.
This winter has been damning cold but the construction of IFC Seoul has never been stopped. The exterior of the Conrad Seoul building is almost finished and the windows of One IFC can't be more sparkling. The construction of the IFC Mall is quite active too and three big SPA brands - ZARA, H&M, and Abercrombie & Fitch - are going to open here in this year.
